On completion of the basic carpentry course you will not have to rely on someone else to complete simple stud wall construction, installing door linings, hanging doors, and fitting architraves and skirting boards. At the end of four days you will be competent in the skills necessary to carry out substantial first and second fix carpentry. With these skills you will be able to save yourself hundreds of pounds in carpentry costs freeing up valuable finance for other elements in your property renovation or home maintenance projects.

Our carpentry course provides you with the essential skills to complete first fix and second fix carpentry. You will be given instruction on Health and Safety and the safe use of hand tools and electric saws. Training covers the building of stud walls, fitting of door linings and cutting doors to size and also includes installing door furniture, measure cut and fit skirting boards and architraves.
The Basic Carpentry Course is designed to provide a step-by-step approach to carpentry. The course is to present a practical guide through the two subjects, namely first-fixing and second-fixing carpentry. These terms cover the work required to be done before plastering – such as roofing, floor joists and stud walls are referred to first – fix carpentry. Second fixing carpentry refers to any work that takes place after plastering – such as fixing skirting boards, architraves and door – hanging
The basic carpentry course covers how to read and interpret construction drawings, tools required, their care and proper use. All wood working tools are sharp and a potential for accidents to happen if not used correctly. You will be made aware of the dangers therefore health and Safety and the use and care of tools is a vital element of the training.
Additional information:
Carpentry includes fixing devices – nails, screws, cavity fixings and glues. You will learn how to erect timber stud partitions*, door frames, linings, fittings and hanging doors, fitting locks, latches and door furniture, fixing pipe casings and framed ducts. The course concludes with the fixing of architraves, skirting boards, dado rails and picture rails with an overview on the geometry, marking and fixing of arch centres.
*Partitions are secondary walls used to divide the internal areas of buildings. Although often built of building blocks, or other materials, timber and metal are frequently used – especially above ground – floor level, on suspended timber floors, where block partitions would add too much weight unless supported from below by a beam or wall.
