About Us

The Building Skills Academy is an independent building skills training centre established to provide you with real hands on building skills experience in a series of great courses at great prices!

The Building Skills Academy offers you the opportunity to train in one of six building skills which are tailored for you if you are thinking about a career change or wishing to undertake home maintenance or property renovation. At the Building Skills Academy you can learn the skills you want, in order for you to carry out your building aspirations, by taking one of our short introductory courses in Bricklaying, Plastering, Wall and Floor Tiling, Plumbing, Kitchen Fitting, First and Second fix Carpentry. Additionally, for those of you wishing to take on the more adventurous building tasks then why not have a look at our tailor made handyman course that combines four of our individual building skills courses to offer you much broader training at an even greater price!

“Offering you a comprehensive introduction to building skills”

The Building Skills Academy training is conducted in a realistic environment, taught by experienced instructors with many years in the industry. Depending on which building trade course you choose, your course will either be 2, 5 or 20 days; with some courses also running over two consecutive weekends. The courses are designed to give you a comprehensive introduction to building skills, providing you with adequate practice and knowledge to attempt small building or renovation projects and give you the confidence to start your own business.

Our promise is to provide you with excellent, hands on, practical skills training, giving you the knowledge, competence and confidence to develop your own building skills. To meet that aim we operate a restriction policy on our courses that ensures, in most cases, a maximum of six students per course, except for plastering where we allow eight students and provide two instructors. Our small classes ensure you’ll receive the quality training and personal attention that you deserve whilst you learn your new building skills.

Our objectives are to help you realise your building skills aspirations, whether as a career change or if you need to gain building skills to tackle that home project, or supervise your own self build project.

We are based in New Greenham Park, south of Newbury town centre on the Newbury to Basingstoke A339. We have a large car park and on site café facilities.
